    • Outbreak 1 (Aomori) – follow-up information of the previous report:
      • The N-type was identified as N6 by the National Institute of Animal Health (NIAH) on 1 December 2016.
      • Destruction of all the susceptible birds in the affected farm has been completed on 29 November 2016.
    • Outbreak 2 (Niigata, Sekikawa-mura) – follow-up information of the previous report:
      • The N-type was identified as N6 by NIAH on 1 December 2016.
      • Destruction of all the susceptible birds in the affected farm has been completed on 2 December 2016.
    • Outbreak 3 (Niigata, Joetsu-shi) – this report:
      • On 30 November 2016, the local veterinary service centre in Niigata Prefecture received a notification from a domestic hens farm about an increase in the numbers of dead birds (100 birds during the latest two days).
      • The samples from dead birds were confirmed to be influenza A virus positive by antigen-capture kits and to be subtype H5 by RT-PCR and RRT-PCR in Niigata Livestock Hygiene Service Centre.
      • Destruction of all the susceptible birds in the affected farm has been completed on 4 December 2016.
      • Movement and shipment restrictions are imposed on the farms within a radius of 3km and within a radius of 3-10km of the affected farm, respectively.
      • The N-type was identified as N6 by the NIAH on 2 December 2016.
    • Outbreak 4 (Aomori, 2nd case) - this report:
      • On 2 December 2016, the local veterinary service centre in Aomori Prefecture received a notification about an increase of the number of dead birds (5 birds on the day) from a domestic ducks farm, which was related epidemiologically to the farm already notified (as in Outbreak 1).
      • The samples from dead birds were confirmed to be influenza A virus positive by on-site antigen-capture kits in the farm and to be subtype H5 by RT-PCR and RRT-PCR in Aomori Livestock Hygiene Service Centre.
      • Destruction of all the susceptible birds in the affected farm has been completed on 3 December 2016.
      • Movement and shipment restrictions had been already imposed due to the Outbreak 1.
      • The N-type was identified as N6 by NIAH on 5 December 2016.
