Why we must stop the use of antivirals in veterinary medicine in Egypt

Health crisis looms unless it takes action to prevent the abuse of antivirals by some manufacturers of veterinary drugs

The antiviral drugs for the treatment of several human diseases, such as HIV / AIDS, hepatitis C and influenza virus and many of the cases caused by herpes virus infection. After decades of research conducted on the antivirals, the only antiviral compounds approved for use in the field of veterinary medicine in some countries is recombinant interferon barn average of immunity.

In China, allowed the irresponsible use of amantadine, an anti-flu medication, with commercial poultry emergence of drug - resistant mutations of influenza strains lethal, thus losing its effectiveness of this drug in the treatment ofcases of human infection.

This has led to make a group of anti-influenza known as neuraminidase inhibitors, including oseltamivir oseltamivir, the last line of defense for treating human influenza clinical infection.There is evidence of misuse and extensive amantadine in Egypt, the only country in the Middle East, which is endemic to 2 where the avian H5N1 virus.

He revealed genetic analysis for evidence of resistance to amantadine in 48% of the Egyptian strains of the H5N1 virus.
