West Nile fever Situation update, 7 October 2016


As of 6 October 2016, a total of 188 cases of West Nile fever (WNF) in humans have been reported in the EU Member States and 230 cases in the neighbouring countries, since the beginning of the 2016 transmission season.

This week 18 new cases have been reported, 17 in the EU Member States and one case in the neighbouring countries.

During the past week, Hungary has reported nine new cases, all in already affected areas: Budapest (1), Hajdu-Bihar (1), Pest (4) and Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg (3).

Italy has reported three new cases, all in already affected provinces: Bologna (1) and Cremona (2).

Romania has reported five new cases, one from the newly affected Cluj county and four from already affected areas: Bacau, Bucuresti, Constanta and Prahova.

In the neighbouring countries, Serbia has reported a new confirmed case in Grad Beograd, an already affected area.
