CHP notified of human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) in Mainland


The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (May 6) is monitoring notification from the National Health and Family Planning Commission that 22 additional human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9), including eight deaths, were recorded from April 28 to May 4, and strongly urged the public to maintain strict personal, food and environmental hygiene both locally and during travel.

The 14 male and eight female patients, aged from 26 to 82, had onset from April 14 to 29, of whom:

  1. 7 were from Hebei,
  2. 6 from Sichuan, and
  3. one from Anhui,
  4. 1 from Beijing,
  5. 1 from Chongqing,
  6. 1 from Gansu,
  7. 1 from Guangxi,
  8. 1 from Henan,
  9. 1 from Hubei,
  10. 1 from Hunan and
  11. 1 from Jiangsu.

Among them, 17 were known to have exposure to poultry, poultry markets or mobile stalls.
