#UnderTheLens: This is a microscopic view of a flu virus. Each year, millions of children get sick with seasonal influenza and thousands of children are hospitalized. The best way for parents to protect their child against the flu is by getting their children vaccinated each year. Flu viruses infect the nose, upper airways, throat, and lungs. The disease spreads easily and can cause serious problems, especially for children younger than 5 years old. Children of any age with long-term medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, and disorders of the brain or nervous system are more likely to end up in the hospital from the flu. To help protect those you love, doctors recommend that all children 6 months and older get the vaccine every year.
