The 69-year-old Taiwanese businessman, who was infected with H7N9 avian flu in the mainland earlier this month, died yesterday and was the first ever fatal human case of H7N9 in Taiwan.

The Department of Health (CDC) said that the Taiwanese businessmen had high blood pressure and had severe pneumonia at the time of admission at the beginning of the month. The disease continued to worsen, developing antiviral drug oseltamivir resistance.
