Chinese Academy of Science researcher Zhong Nanshan said that Guangdong recently found two H7N9 avian influenza virus with mutations making highly pathogenic for poultry, and resistant to some antiviral medications.
He said that the virus was found in the blood of both patients and in the upper and lower respiratory tract.
However, Zhong Nanshan said that at present most patients [improved] with special treatment [that seems to be] effective, indicating that the mutated virus is not widespread.
He called on the public, do not touch live birds, once the fever and other flu symptoms, to timely seek medical treatment.
