West Nile fever - Situation update, 18 November 2016
As of 17 November 2016, 206 cases of West Nile fever in humans have been reported in the EU Member States and 264 cases in the neighbouring countries, since the beginning of the 2016 transmission season.
This week no new cases have been reported in the EU Member States and one case has been reported in the neighbouring countries.
Israel reported a new cases in the already affected Southern district.
Through the Animal Disease Notification System (ADNS), Portugal reported three new infections in horses in the inter-municipal communities of Baixo Alentejo (Beja district) and Algarve (Faro district).
Otherwise, for the case reported by France with the onset of disease during his stay in Egypt, investigations are still ongoing to confirm the exact place of infection. The Cairo governorate and Menoufia governorate are the two possible places considered so far.
